Shenzhen Baoan International Airport

First built in 1984, and opened in 1991, the Xi'an Xianyang International Airport airport is located in the northwest of Xi'an, 47 km away from city center with coverage of 500 hectares.

The rapid growth in air traffic in northwestern China has led it to require further expansion of the airport. Therefore, the second phase of airport construction project was launched on December 1999 and put into operation on September 2003 with an investment of RMB1.5billion (US$0.19billion). The new airport boasts 2 terminals with 320,000-m2 aprons. It is designed to service 10 million passengers and 100,000 flights annually. Generally speaking, the new airport can meet the requirements for the future development of Xian until 2010.

As the most important aviation center in the northwest of China, Xian airport has established business relationship with 26 airlines at home and broad. Flights cover 68 cities in China and 11 in other countries. An aviation network in Xian has been formed. In 2002, totally 4.43 million passenger depart or arrive in this famous historical city.
