Lhasa Gonga Airport

Located at Gonga County - 100km southeast of the city, Lhasa Gonga Airport was first built in 1965.

With an investment of 370 million yuan, Lhasa Airport Terminal was put into service on January 1st, 2004 with an altitude of 3600 meters. The runway is 4000 meter long and 45 meter wide. It is one of the highest airports for civil use in the world. In 2003, the airport welcomed 700,000 passengers as its customers.

The staff working in the airport totals more than 500, compared with that in 1965, there were only 16 employees. The airport has seen a dramatic change. The air route added from merely one to 12 up to now, including an international flight to Katmandu. The domestic flights covers Beijing, Chengdu, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Chongqing, Xian, Xining, Kunming, Diqing, Changdu and Hong Kong. There are 40 flights per week, transport totally 700,000 passengers every year. As we can see, Lhasa Gonga Airport will do more contribution to the development of Tibet economy.
